1956: Martin Cano de la Cruz, a well respected local businesman from Cataluña founded the
business and created the foundation of what it is today by making several key acquisitions within the sector.
2001: The founder retires from Barlesa and his son Gonzalo Cano–Cembrano enters into the
company and takes over from his father running the business during an important stage.
2003: Gonzalo Cano–Dies, grandson of the founder joins the Board of Directors and assumes the position of CEO.
2005: Gonzalo Cano–Dies, following in his grandfathers footsteps, makes his first acquisition when he buys "Suministros
Coc S.L.", a leading Spanish steel wool manufacturing company.
2006: Barlesa annouces an investment to buy the most update machinery from a german based
equipment manufacturer and builds new offices to compliment the state of the art manufacturing equipment.
2007: Barlesa launches two products, stainless steel wool and copper wool, to enhance and expand their existing product range.
At the launch of the new products Gonzalo Cano, CEO and third generation of the Cano family to run the company stated:
